Coney Island, Brooklyn!

(All photos ©D. Matlack 2004-2010)

Coney Island is a most exciting place with a great past, a "national treasure", part of our collective memory, yet the future of Coney Island is a great big question mark. Astroland exists only in memory. Unfortunately, parts of our beloved Coney Island currently are a wasteland. Still intact are Nathan's Famous, the Cyclone, the Parachute Jump, and of course I am crazy for the Wonder Wheel and Deno's Wonder Wheel Park, not to mention the beautiful swimming beaches, and Keyspan Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones. Don't miss the Mermaid Parade and Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest and New Year's Day with the Polar Bear Club! And how about Coney Island Creek? Rustic/industrial, great birding, a natural paradise. I also have been privileged to be a member of a community garden which provides fresh produce and beauty to the neighborhood. I hope you enjoy my photos, it's really been an autobiographical journey over the past few years, so many different facets of Coney Island.
